Maintaining your Air Conditioner
An air conditioner's filters, coils, and fins require regular maintenance for the unit to function effectively and efficiently throughout its years of service. Neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in air conditioning performance while energy use steadily increase.
Air Conditioner Filters
The most important maintenance task for ensuring your air conditioner's efficiency is regularly replacing or cleaning its filters. Dirty filters block airflow, reducing efficiency and potentially causing dirt to enter the evaporator coil, which impairs its heat-absorbing capacity. Replacing a clogged filter can lower energy consumption by 5% to 15%. Some filters are reusable, while others must be replaced, and they come in various types and efficiencies. Clean or replace the filter every month or two during the cooling season, or more often if the air conditioner is used frequently, in dusty conditions, or if you have pets.
